Srinagar, July 12: A moderate earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale jolted Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir today at 12:26 p.m. The earthquake’s epicenter was located at coordinates 34.32°N and 74.41°E, with a depth of 5 km, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).
The quake’s estimated energy release was 1.3 x 10^11 joules, equivalent to 35 megawatt hours or 30.1 tons of TNT. The tremors were felt across Kashmir, causing alarm among residents.

As of now, there have been no reports of casualties or significant damage. Authorities are assessing the situation and urge residents to remain calm but vigilant.
